We believe that baptism is an ordinance of the Lord by which those who have repented and come to faith express their union with Christ in His death and resurrection. They do so by being immersed in water in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
In other words, it is an outward expression of the inward change that has taken place in your life. You are saying with this action of immersion into water, just like Jesus went into the grave, I am letting go of my way of doing things, and I will no longer live for myself. I, just like Jesus, rose from the dead and am alive today. This action also says, now that I am up out of the water, I live in Christ. My life is made new in Him, and He is also now in me. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 it states, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."
